Liza Diekema (b. 1990) is a multidisciplinary artist and professional architectural modelmaker based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Her artistic practice crosses the boundaries between old, real, and fictional worlds, creating a tapestry of work that addresses societal concerns, explores the not-so-distant future, and captures architectural memories imbued with deep nostalgia.
With a background in spatial design, architecture, research design, conceptual design, and fine art, her work is deeply rooted in the exploration of spatial depictions and environments. She invites viewers to embark on a journey through her layered, multidimensional landscapes. By invoking philosophical themes and monumental archetypes, she encourages them to question their perceptions and engage with the world in new and thought-provoking ways. Her work is a call to explore the deeper connections between our physical surroundings and the abstract realms of thought and emotion.
Diekema employs a diverse array of media, including graphic design, film, sound, digital drawings, installations, sculptures, and photography, crafting experiences that often leave spectators in a state of unease or wonder. Her architectural expertise enhances her artistic endeavors, allowing her to construct intricate models that serve as both standalone pieces and integral components of larger installations. Her work is characterised by its attention to detail and its ability to blur the lines between the real and the imagined.
