Homeostasis is a project that harmonises nature and traditional craftsmanship. Two pavilions rise in the terrace mountains of an old coal mining district in the Shandong Providence Eastern China. These dark concrete structures referencing to its past landscape serve as exhibition spaces for is traditional local craftsmanship — glazed ceramics and textiles. Situated high in the mountains, they serve as viewpoints showing its spectators the transformative values of bringing a bright natural landscape back to life.
The ceramic pavilion is sunken into the mountain, featuring a terraced interior that descends in seating areas and exhibition spaces for local ceramics. Its green ceramic-glazed roof reflects traditional Chinese philosophy, representing life, renewal, and growth. It is connected to the spring season and the rejuvenation of nature.
The textile pavilion extends a natural pathway. Inside this vast, open-ceiling space, visitors weave through long hanging textiles, leading to a lookout point. Both structures maintain a symmetrical design, echoing traditional Chinese architecture.
